When you mash up the musical stylings of first-class klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer with hip-hop artist Socalled, you’re going to wind up with a product that’s unique and awesome. But when you add Fred Wesley’s trombone to the mix, you’re going to end up with a class of klezmer on a different planet of funk altogether.
Wesley may have toured with the Count Basie Orchestra and Parliament-Funkadelic, and cut his teeth with Ike and Tina, but he’s best known for his instrumental role playing and arranging, and for creating his legacy as the “world’s most famous sideman” alongside James Brown in the ’60s and ’70s. When you hear his bone wail, it’s an unmistakable sound. This new collaboration Abraham Inc. brings it all together as a 10-piece ensemble and has recently released a new record, “Tweet, Tweet.”
