Junior Account Planner

I’m a Texan, although you probably wouldn’t know it by talking to me. From Texas I decided to go see and experience different parts of the world. I went to college in Utah, went on a two-year mission to Belem, Brazil, sold pest control in California during the summers, and fulfilled an internship in NYC while living in Harlem. I am a BYU graduate working in the world of advertising. I love to find answers to the small things in life in hopes that they will equal one great sum of extremely valuable knowledge. I have been listening to music, playing instruments and writing songs for as long as I can remember. I love Coheed & Cambria and of course Weezer. Video games and board games are also a favorite. I have always had an affinity towards Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Star Wars being the spawning point of this. [Side note: I have met the actors who played Chewbacca, Boba Fett, C3PO and R2-D2 ... jealous?] I spend most of my free time with my beautiful wife and smiling little girl (and yes, I have played My Little Pony ... don’t judge). They are truly the key to my heart.

Experiencing the McRib

The McRib is back and EVERYONE knows it If you have a pulse and live in the U.S., it’s a pretty safe bet that you know McDonald’s McRib is back. Not only is it back, but it has become the top Twitter topic in the past couple of weeks while simultaneously hitting the number-one spot in Yahoo and Google trends. So what is it about this sandwich that has people going crazy? In an effort to find out for myself, I ordered a McRib to see if it held up to all the buzz. In actuality, it was a decent sandwich for the price but nothing that felt worthy of so much attention. When I set out on YouTube to see ...

The Millenial Connection

It is back-to-school time again and it is always exciting to see kids and parents alike getting ready for the ever-important dive into the next year. This year was a little different for me since it’s my little brother, not my kid, going off to college for the first time. When I realized that I hadn’t said goodbye on his last night, he looked at me puzzled and said, “I’ll see you in a couple of days,” leaving me completely baffled. “I will be online.” That sentence has been gnawing at me since I heard it. Are online connections really gaining so much strength for Millenials? More importantly, what does that mean for marketers? Does that mean a phone call, ...

Why I like to see … myself?

This thought occurred after a presentation from Oddcast, a successful shop that capitalizes on creative technology to personalize creative vision, many times through pictures and videos within a campaign. The presentation featured the famous clip from the movie “Alien” in which the alien bursts out of the crewmember’s chest; however, this time the face of the alien was swapped out with another picture using mymoviemoment.com. I got so excited that I ran back to my desk and instantly plugged in my daughter’s face to see what it would look like. Needless to say, it freaked me out a little and gave me a good laugh. I wondered, why do I love this so much? All I am doing is ...

What Can Advertising Learn From a Door-to-Door Salesman?

It is a quite perplexing question and one that shouldn’t be tossed aside. Think about the typical day of a door-to-door salesman, knocking and ringing all day for the elusive “sale.” The truth about his profession is that he is advertising to every person, and how he delivers his pitch will determine if he gets to eat that week. Most of us have what seems to be an embedded instinct to shut salesmen out with the “I don’t care what he is selling. I don’t want it.” attitude.

Multicultural Metamorphosis

The African American demographic is on the rise. According to recent U.S. Census 2010 projection reports, African Americans are 42 million strong. In fact, there is optimism in the air as African Americans are truly beginning to have a clear and certain voice.
